Wow what a week of games last week. Even though I lost most of my predictions, I was happy to see parity in the league. We had the two games of the week go down to the wire and for the Professors it was a good win against a nemesis Bronx Hawks Express. Both teams were ready and Coach Felix out matched his Coach Hobson in the second half winning by 5 points. Fellowship looks spectacular in their win against the defending champs winning by 6 points thus taking over first place. New Dime barely got by the eliminators by one point but a win is a win. The vipers of Mt Vernon stung the Shockers of Sharon into submission; River of Life sustained enough to beat the Hustlers of Horeb and New Life was rejuvenated and defeated the Crushers of Cornerstone in over time by 10 points. What this tells me is that at any given night any team could win, it's how they execute and respond to adversity that counts. Well this week we have some more exciting games with lots of implications however, which team would step up to the challenge and which team would wilt under the pressure and bright lights? Only time would tell but let’s see what Milo thinks about this week's games which could propel some teams up the ladder or drop them further into the abyss. Let's go.
Cornerstone Crushers vs. River of Life Sustainers
West meets southwest as the Crushers of Cornerstone try and rebound from a tough loss and stop the sustainers from flowing. ROL played a complete game last week out hustling the hustlers of Horeb by 7 points. What are the keys to victory for both teams? Cornerstone must play solid defense, shoot well from the field, minimize the turnovers, and play with a sense of urgency. ROL on the other hand must continue pushing the rock, play solid defense, shoot well from the field, and out rebound their opponent. Look for a close game but in the end I feel Cornerstone would bounce back and show what they are made of. Cornerstone wins this match up by 3 points as they move out the basement.
NJ Juggernauts vs. Ebenezer Sharp Shooters
Battle in the east as the Juggernauts of NJ try and stop the Sharp Shooters of Ebenezer and drop them out of the undefeated ranks. NJ knows what is at stake this game because divisional losses make it that much harder to get to the tournament. Ebenezer on the other hand must continue to build on their first win so they could be ready come playoff time. What are the keys to victory for both teams? NJ must shoot well from the line and field, minimize the turnovers, attack the paint, and get bench contributions. Ebenezer on the other hand must play their style and attack the rim, shoot well from deep, play solid defense, and minimize the turnovers. Look for a close game the first half, but by second half I expect to see the sharp shooters do what they do and win this match up by at least 6 points as they hold onto the top spot in the east.
Christian Fellowship Hawks vs. Corona Crusaders
East meets southwest as the crusaders of Corona try and stop the high flying hawks of Fellowship and drop them out of first place in Milo's "Game of the Week". Both teams are undefeated, and both teams are in first place in their division. Now the stage is set and to the winner goes the spoils. Fellowship played great last week in defeating the kings of T&T by 6 points, as I said before Fellowship always start the season strong but to maintain it is another story. Corona also need this game to keep up in the division especially with Ebenezer playing the same night a win and they could be in first place. What are the keys to victory for both teams? Fellowship must attack the rim, shoot well from the field, minimize the turnovers, and out rebound their opponent. Corona on the other hand must push the rock, get bench contributions, minimize the turnovers, and play solid defense. I expect to see a close game but in the end I feel Fellowship will show up and want it more and for that reason I'm picking them to win this match up by at least 4 points as they stay undefeated.
Horeb Hustlers vs. Bethany Ballers
East meets southwest as the Ballers of Bethany try and stop the hustlers of Horeb and get back to respectability. Both teams are in the basement looking up, both teams are winless, and both teams had past success. The question they both need to ask themselves is can we change our fortunes? In any sport teams must make adjustments if they are to be successful. If it worked in the past and it isn't now you must adjust to the strength of your team. Don't fit a square into a circle. What are the keys to victory for both teams? Horeb must out hustle the Ballers, shoot well from the field, out rebound their opponent, and play solid defense. Bethany on the other hand must push the rock, shoot well from the field, get bench contributions and attack the paint. Look for a close game with lots of score changes, but in the end I feel the hustlers would out hustle the Ballers and win this game by at least 6 points as they move one step closer to relativity.
New Life Rejuvenators vs. Mt Sinai Tigers
Battle in the west as the Rejuvenators of New Life try and continue their winning ways against arch rival Mt Sinai and move up in the division. Both teams know what is at stake for this game, a win and you move up a loss and you move down. New Life played a strong game last week in defeating Cornerstone by 10 points. Mt Sinai was off but they know this opponent well. What are the keys to victory for both teams? New Life must attack the paint, shoot well from the line, get bench contributions, and play with smarts. Mt Sinai on the other hand must play solid defense, shoot well from the field, minimize the turnovers, and slow the game down. Look for a close game throughout but in the end I feel the tigers would roar and the Rejuvenators would wilt. Mt Sinai wins this match up by 8 points as they stay within striking distance of first place.
Sharon Shockers vs. Ephesus Eliminators
Battle in the northeast as the Shockers of Sharon try and eliminate the Eliminators of Ephesus and keep them in the basement. New kids on the block and sometimes that's all it takes for teams to pounce. Sharon played hard despite their two losses, while Ephesus had a tough disappointing loss last week against the destroyers. What are the keys to victory for both teams? Sharon must minimize the turnovers, shoot well from the field, out rebound their opponent, and attack the paint. Ephesus on the other hand must push the rock and attack the paint, shoot well from the line, minimize the turnovers, and play solid defense. Look for a close game first half but come second half I expect to see Ephesus run away with this game. Ephesus wins blow out style as they try and continue climbing in the division.
Mt Vernon Vipers vs. White Plains Professors
Battle in the northeast as the vipers of Mt Vernon try and sting the professors into submission. Both teams won last week and look to continue with that trend. Mt Vernon defeated Sharon last week while the professors showed why they are still problems for teams. They defeated Bronx in a tough battle and now is looking to seize the league. What are the keys to victory for both teams? Mt Vernon must push the rock, shoot well from the field, attack the paint, and minimize the turnovers. WP on the other hand knows what's at stake and will come ready. They must play their style, shoot well from the line due to all the fouls, attack the paint with their bigs, and play their game. Look for a close game the first half but by second half I expect to see WP pull away and win this game in blow out style.
New Dimension Destroyers vs Bronx Hawks Express
West meets northeast as the destroyers of New Dime try and continue their winning ways against the Bronx and hopefully stop them from running express. New Dime won their game last week although it was a nail bitter they showed me something. Bronx on the other hand lost a tug a war match against the professors and look to rebound in a big way. Both teams are familiar with each other despite being in different divisions. What are the keys to victory for both teams? New Dime must play solid defense, shoot well from the field, attach the paint, and out rebound their opponent. Bronx on the other hand must play solid defense, shoot well from the field, minimize the turnovers, and slow down the two headed guard play of New Dime. Look for a close game because both teams are similar. What I would be looking for is how each team adjusts to in game changes. I expect to see lots of points but in the end I feel Bronx would run express especially in the second half. Bronx wins this match up by 6 points as they show pride and rebound back to the top.
