Need I say more or did the professors silence all their critics. "Clash of the Titans" proved to be just that and more. As the defending champs and the challenger WP took the court for their most important game of the season I couldn't help but observe the body language of both teams. These are the subtle things that coaches and opponents look at to gain an advantage. I'm not saying that the defending champs New Dime was overwhelmed or anything but not all their players looked as confident and ready for the game. It's one thing to be the underdog and not have heavy expectations, but when the tables are turned and you are the favorite then sometimes players shy away from the spot light. Both teams once the jitters were gone settled down and played an outstanding game. Although I lost my prediction I must admit I wasn't surprised because I know the heart of a champion. New Dime I know this one hurts because it could have put your team, church, and fans in some rare air but it just wasn't meant to be. Dynasties are created over time and although you were destined to be great you fell short this year. What a difference a year makes. Last year you were basking in the spot light and sunlight because of your accomplishments and this year should have been no different. You fought hard and played with passion but in the end you fell short. You can't and won't hang your heads because what you have accomplished in the last three seasons not to many teams could match. So take pride in the fact that you were knocking at the door but it was locked. So as the saying goes to the destroyers of New Dime sorry fellas but you are going fishing on the Jersey Shores for bass. I know how disappointing it must feel especially with all the hype but you did your best and it just wasn't good enough. I booked two boats to accommodate your entire team, staff, and fans so pack your bags and bring lots of bait. Try and enjoy the sunshine, cool breeze, and clear your heads because you had an outstanding season. You came in second this year and there is no shame in that. Try and see where you can correct some areas and come back next year prepared.
Now to the champs White Plains Professors. What a season fellas and to see it end the way it started 6 years ago is nothing but spectacular. Four championships in 6 years, 5 divisional championships, twice runner up losing in the chip game, and now 103 wins - 8 loses. That is what I call a once in a lifetime run. I could just imagine the haters got a bit larger after this one. It's not about style or fashion it's about being committed to a cause. Too many times I observe team’s best players not being held accountable and as a result it trickles down to the rest of players. Credit to Coach Felix who stands for all that is right when it comes to coaching and running a team and his vision is second to none. White Plains quite frankly will go down as the best ever and nothing in the past could change that. Maybe 20 years from now we would look back at this team and realize that we were witnessing something very special. This team plays big in the biggest stage and that is a trait of their coaching staff and players. In order to be considered the best it has to be a holistic approach. The problems I see with many teams are the fact that they have players who can win games on their own strength but lack the intangibles to get their team over the hump. Teams need their best players to be leaders on and off the court because players tend to listen if it's coming from a player they respect. Also coaches tend to coach on Saturday night and are not involved in their player’s daily lives and as a result there is a true disconnect. Players need direction especially the younger ones in order to grow and become the leaders of tomorrow. Basketball is another avenue to get them to that point, but without guidance they would not reach their full potential. Coach Felix and his staff do that and as a result his players would run through a wall for him. Players know when a coach is looking out for their best interest and if you ask any player on the WP team they would all say I'm preaching to the choir. This is why this team has and will continue to succeed because it is more than just a game it's a way of life. So to the players, coaches, fans, and followers of FWP, congratulations on another championship season. WP stayed the course and finished the race and now could bask in the glory of their accomplishments. Keep inspiring, keep sharing, keep caring, and above all keep God in the center because all the success and attention allows you to witness more. As the final horn sounded and the dust settled there was a familiar sound and that was of the WP fans screaming in triumph. I just couldn't help myself because I realized I was witnessing greatness. WP you are the "BEST EVER" and no one can take that away anymore even if they tried.
Well that's all for Milo's post championship comments. It has been a truly exciting season and the league continues to show why we are the best. To all the commissioners, NCBL family, players, coaches, and fans thanks for making this season a success. Everyone has a part to play and if we all continue to support and encourage each other the league could be even better. Continue to strive for excellence because God has given us the blueprint. Have a great summer and try and enjoy the time off because tomorrow isn't promised to anyone. Each of us has a responsibility to represent Christ in the correct manner and if we do the younger generation will follow. Stand up for Christ because Christ has been standing up for us all. Until next time this is Milo signing out. God Bless.
