Wow what a run to the finish and a new champion is crowned. The destroyers of New Dimension didn't just win the championship but did so in convincing fashion over the defending champs White Plains. I must admit I can't say I didn't see it coming because this team has been playing consistent ball since their loss to Shiloh back in March. Other than going undefeated throughout the season and playoffs like WP did, this team has done what few others have been able to do during their epic run. New Dime defeated all top teams they faced and proved their season win over the champs wasn't a fluke. Remember this team lost to Shiloh and since then have been in playoff mode since. They defeated Flatbush when they were hot and undefeated; they defeated White Plains, Horeb, Bethel, QB, Shiloh, and of course White Plains for the "chip". That is what I call an epic run.
White Plains despite not winning the chip this year have a lot to be thankful for. This team exhibits the values and standards that most teams need to be successful not only on the court but in the community. Did this loss diminish or tarnish their legacy? I think not because as the saying goes you can't win them all. However, every year it seems like coach Felix and his staff have their team prepared for a deep run at the chip. Winning 4 championships, 5 divisional crown, and being runner up to Flatbush two years ago, and now losing to New Dime this year is very impressive. And the thing that most teams don't realize is this team is still hungry. Coach Felix and his staff might have lost this battle but they know the war continues.
New Dime proved that they have the heart and players to compete with the former champs and if they could stay together and hungry maybe they could be in this position for years to come.
White Plains for some reason couldn't get it going and part was because New Dime defense was stingy. New Dime had a 15 point lead in the second half and had an answer for the champs every time they made a run. I was impressed with the composure that the destroyers showed throughout because they stared the champs in their eyes and didn't blink. When the dust settled and the final horn sounded New Dime was the last team standing and to the victor goes all the spoils.
So as the saying goes with our traditional send off. White Plains team, fans, and followers, pack your bags and bring lots of bait because you are going fishing for bass in Virginia. You proved even in a loss that you are champs because setbacks are a part of life. Never take these moments for granted because even dynasties don't last forever. Get your minds right, enjoy the cool breeze and sunshine, and prepare for next year. It just wasn't meant to be and as much as it hurts it will only make you more dedicated for next year.
As for the newly crowned champions New Dime destroyers congratulations on a great run and season. You definitely deserve all the praises because you met every test and passed with flying colors. Congrats to your coaching staff, fans, and church for a job well done.
Last week I asked the question," can a giant be slain twice in one year"? You answered the question with an emphatic win and in so doing did what no other team has done in the last 6 year and that is defeat the former champs twice in one year. This is your second championship in the last 8 years and you should be proud of that. Stay humble and continue to prepare because come next year you will be on everyones radar.
Well that's all for Milo's post championship comments. To all the commisioners, teams, fans, followers, and churches thank you for making this season one to remember. The website was great and it shows how far we as a league have come. In closing I must remind everyone that we are all responsible for the success of this league. Players, fans, followers, churches, and guest we all must be of one accord. God had given us a way to reach folks and witness, it's for us to accept the challenge and show why we are children of the King.
Keep praying and fight because at the end of the day it's each of us that will have to answer to God for the things we did and the things we could have done.
Until next time this is Milo signing out. Enjoy the summer vacation and players practice so that next year the competition would be even better. God Bless.
